When things were going good for the Texas Rangers, they were going very good. They had the most wins in baseball just two weeks ago. They had the best record in the American League, and they had a 10 game lead on the Astros. They had us all thinking World Series in June, and rightly so the way things were going.
Baseball is a long season, longer than any other professional sport. All teams go through highs and lows. Think about the White Sox who started the season so great but have now really fallen off the pace. So the question is, which Rangers team is the real one? The one that had the best record in the American League, or the one that can’t pitch, score or play defense.
With the trade deadline upcoming, the Rangers have some tough decisions ahead. Is Rougned Odor the second baseman of the future? Should they trade Jurickson Profar? Roogie? Joey Gallo? And do theu get a rental or a guy who is controllable? Jon Daniels has some work to do.

I obviously do not have all the answers, but what I do know is that this Rangers team is struggling, and they need help. Yu Darvish pitched really good today, but the offense and defense couldn’t help him out at all. The Rangers have scored one run in the last 18 innings.
Keone Kela returned today. That will help a struggling bull pen. Jake Diekman will return next week, and Sam Dyson has been pretty solid. Cole Hamels will bounce back as well. So will this team recover? I firmly believe that they will. I also believe that theu will win the West.
With Derek Holland and Colby Lewis both being out for most of the rest of the season, it will take either Chi Chi Gonzalez or Nick Martinez not being awful. That is possible, but is it likely? I suppose only time will tell.
All the fans can hope is that they break out of this funk soon and don’t have to trade the farm to do it. The next few weeks will tell us a whole lot about this franchise going forward. I hope it is a good few weeks.
