Game 1 is in the Books

The Texas Rangers and the Boston Red Sox faced off for game 1 of the 2025 Major League Baseball season.

Nathan Eovaldi faced off against Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet. Rangers fans have high expectations for the team in 2025 and for good reason.

This offense looks better and the pitching has the opportunity to be special. The Rangers played in front of a packed house this afternoon.

Eovaldi mowed the Sox down in the first inning, and Crochet allowed a 2-out- walk to Wyatt Langford but shut the Rangers down otherwise.

The Rangers scored first in the second inning on a single from Kevin Pillar that scored Jake Burger, and the Red Sox answered in the third on a fielders choice off the bat of Ceddanne Rafaela.

Eovaldi had his curve ball working really well and his pitch count was good through 4 innings. The Red Sox began being more patient in the 4th.

Eovaldi finished the game throwing 6 innings and achieving 9 strike-outs, tied for the most in franchise history for opening day (Lance Lynn, 2020).

“He pitched like a No. 1,” Marcus Semien said after the game. “When you bring him back, you know you’re going to get the intensity. He’s a big-game pitcher. Today was a big game. It’s Opening Day and he showed up. You pair him with deGrom and it’s going to be a good rotation.”

The game was back and forth pitching wise until the 9th inning when the Red Sox broke it open off Rangers reliever Luke Jackson. Jackson was having difficulty throwing strikes and he surrendered a 3 run home-run to Wilyer Abreu that decided the game.

“Nathan deserved that one” Jackson said after the game. “He pitched a heck of a game.”

The Rangers get right back out there tonight as Jack Leiter takes on Tanner Houck as the Texas club goes for their first win of the season.
