Okay, as we are all sitting around tonight waiting for the Yankee/Detroit game to end, I was thinking about which team I think the Rangers have a better chance of beating and came to a realization. The Rangers have more than a chance to beat either one of these teams. In the post season runs that the Rangers made in the 90’s, the Yankees were a perenial power house and the Rangers were frightened of them. After the 2010 post season, I think the Yankees are a little shell shocked about the fact that the Rangers beat them handily. Looking to this years ALCS if it is the Yankees, The Rangers are better than they were last season, and the Yankees are not quite as good overall. The Yankees line up is amazing, no one will deny that, but I think the Rangers starting pitching staff is even better than that line up and will hold them mostly down. The Yankees, after C.C. Sabathia (whom the Rangers beat twice in the ALCS in 2o10 with a worse offense than they have in 2011) the Yankees have an unproven rookie in Nova, who has had a great season, and then A.J. Burnett, who caught lightning in a bottle to save the Yankees season the other night. The Rangers have C.J. Wilson ( who was very good against the Yankees last season), Derek Holland (having a breakout season, and won a game and had a hold in the Tampa series), Colby Lewis (STILL Mr. Clutch in the post season) and Matt Harrison (won his first ever post season start). Their pitching is better than NY’s hitting.
Now, if the Rangers play Detroit, they will have home field advantage. The Rangers have played Detroit better at home than they have on the road, and so that gives them an advantage. They also have a history with this current team of pounding aces for the other team in the post season. Verlander is probably the best pitcher is baseball right now, and I think the Rangers will beat him in Texas in a game 1. Remember, the Rangers struggle against pitchers they have not seen before, but they usually fare pretty well against guys they have faced a lot of times. I think in either series, the Rangers take it in 5 or 6 and get back to the World Series.
I am more excited about this years Rangers team than I was last season, and last season it was new!! This team has something special, and I think that something is the best team chemistry in all of baseball, and with that, pitching, and one of the most potent offenses in the game, I think we will be seeing the Rangers back in the World Series. In fact, I would be very surprised if we didn’t see the Rangers back in the World Series!! I will preview the series when I find out who the Rangers are playing!
