Adrian Beltre – Congratulations to Adrian Beltre for winning the gold glove award at 3rd base this season. He had a great defensive season committing only 11 errors while having a fielding percentage of .965. He was a great addition to the 2011 Texas Rangers and I look forward to seeing what he can do in 2012.
Darren O’Day – The Baltimore Orioles have taken RHP Darren O’Day off waivers from the Rangers. O’Day had two great seasons for the Texas Rangers, and the 2011 season was not so good, marred with injury and ineffective play. I will miss singing the O’Day song when he comes into games.
Colby Lewis – The Rangers have decided to pick up the club option on Colby Lewis for 2012 worth 3.25 million dollars. Colby has been a great pitcher and a workhorse for the Rangers the past two seasons and he has arguably been the Rangers best post season pitcher. I look forward to seeing if Colby can replicate his success over the past two seasons and if he can get some run support.
Free Agents and Such – We all know that C.J. Wilson is a free agent, able to sign with any team starting tomorrow, but who else do the Rangers have either free agents or arbitration eligible?
Free Agents: C.J. Wilson – want him to return but don’t think he will.
Darren Oliver – Darren has been great over the last two years for Texas and I think if he decides not to retire, the Rangers may seriously think about re-signing him.
Michael Gonzalez – Not happening. I like him, but the Rangers have other guys that can fill his role. I hope I am wrong, but I don’t think so.
Endy Chavez – We have Josh Hamilton, Nelson Cruz, David Murphy, Craig Gentry, and Mitch Moreland already that can play outfield. Endy was a great addition to the team in 2011, he will not be back in 2012.
Brandon Webb – Failed experiment
Matt Treanor – I would love to keep him around, but I see no reason to unless the Rangers get rid of Yorvit Torrealba.
Arbitration Eligable – Mike Napoli – um, do what ever it takes to keep him around. MVP of the second half of the season for sure.
Elvis Andrus – pay the boy. he is a great ss, and he is probably going t be one of the best ever when it is all said and done.
David Murphy – I am a huge fan of David Murphy and I think that he deserves his payday. Keep him around please.
Nelson Cruz – Um, keep him around please. The boy can hit.
Matt Harrison – He probably deserves more pay after the 2011 he had.
RHP Mike Adams; RHP Mark Lowe; INF Esteban German; INF Andres Blanco we will see on these fellows. I would not be surprised to see a few of them go.
I will post more news when I hear it, and I will begin speculating on Free Agency later on this week.
