Well Rangers fans, it has been a good day for one organization in the AL West, and that team is not the Texas Rangers. The Angels have agreed to terms with first baseman Albert Pujhols and LHP C.J. Wilson. Albert gets 10 years, and roughly $250 million. C.J. gets $77.5 million over 5 years. So, it is obvious that the Angels are tired of not being in first place in the West, and they are making a play to do something about that. I am a bit surprised that the Angels were able to land both of those players, and I am now a little more worried about the Rangers chances of winning its 3rd straight AL West crown. I still think that they can do it, and it all hinges on the bull pen now. I have faith in the Rangers starters, and they still have Scott Feldman, and 18 game winner a few seasons ago in the pen, and he can be moved back to a starter if someone fails during the season. I do not think that it is time for the Rangers to panic and go out and spend a whole lot of money on a big name free agent when they have so many of their own to worry about coming up very soon. In the next few seasons, they have to worry about Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler, Nelly Cruz, Elvis Andrus, Mike Napoli and others just to name a few. From what I am understanding, the Rangers want to try and keep that core group together, and they feel like they had a better chance of doing that without spending $60+ million on C.J. Wilson. I think that Jon Daniels is a very brilliant GM, and I trust that he knows what he is doing in letting C.J. go to a rival team. Lets not mince words, the Angels are going to be a stacked team in 2012, the only question is, is that going to be enough to take down the back to back AL West champs? Only time will tell.
