Arbitration is a funny thing. Like, for instance, Nelson Cruz thought he should be paid $7.5 million for next year, but the Texas Rangers were only offering him $5.5 million. They settled on $16 million for the next two seasons…that is more that Nelly asked for to avoid arbitration. Arbitration is very hard to understand for the casual baseball fan, and I am not the casual baseball fan. By the way, it is still hard for me to understand as well! All that aside, Nelson Cruz has signed for the next two seasons without reaching arbitration, so now the Rangers only have Mike Napoli to worry about. On his health, Cruz said “Everything is great,” I feel like my legs are stronger and more flexible. It is a huge difference than in the past.” Cruz has been working out at a facility in Florida to try and play a full, injury free 2012 season. The Rangers are still keeping negoations open with Cruz’s agent to discuss a long term deal for the 32 year old right fielder. I would love to see the very talented Cruz make it through a whole season first, but I would not be dissappointed to see him sign a long term deal. Alright, I hope I am writing one more of these for Napoli before the arbitration date!
