Mike Napoli got traded to Texas yesterday from Toronto for Frank Francisco. I need to not have gut reactions anymore, since my first reaction upon hearing the news was that this was a bad thing. I got to thinking about it, chatted with some Twitter friends about it, and I realized that this is in fact a good thing. Napoli is a great power hitter, and a really good catcher. He can also play some first base. So what does that mean for players like Michael Young, Mitch Moreland, and Matt Treanor? I do not know, but I believe that Napoli was signed to be a back up, and not a starter. Napoli is right handed, and we all know that the Rangers were looking for some right handed power to come off the bench when they need it. Napoli hit .238 with 23 HR’s and 68 RBI in 140 games, he brings power back to the catching position. Great sign for Texas, and again, they have an offense that will be hard to pitch too.
