There’s been alot of talk lately about moving Michael Young to Dh, maybe too much talk. Michael Young may not be the best third baseman on the Texas Rangers, but he is the third baseman of the Texas Rangers. He is the team leader, and moving him to DH or any other position after what the team put Mike through two seasons ago would be the death blow to the relationship between Young and The Rangers. I am not ready to see the team leader be disrespected, and I do not think the Rangers will disrespect him. That is why, when the 2011 season starts, Michael Young will be the third baseman. There has been talk about getting Adrian Beltre, who has the personality of Bruce Banner when he is angry, and the team comradely of a wet pickle. That is why we here at RangerFanDieter think making him a Ranger is a bad idea. Anyone remember what happened with Sidney Ponson? I do, and if you do not, let me remind you. Mr. Ponson was a good pitcher for the Rangers, but he would up getting cut for trash talking his own team in a local bar. I for one do not want to hire a guy who has taken a swing at one of his own teammates for allegedly “touching his head”. (Actually, the head touching did occur, I saw it on Sports Center).
The other corner in the infield needs to be Mitch Moreland’s job to start the season. He had the best batting average of any of the Rangers in the post season in 2010, and he played a great 1st base to boot. He has earned (in my humble opinion) the right to start the season at 1st base, plain and simple. Chris Davis may deserve one more shot this season, but Mitch deserves it more. I do not think going out and getting another 1st baseman would be a good call (Jorge Cantu anyone?) The Rangers made the World Series with Mitch and Michael at the corners, and that is where Mitch and Michael should stay.
The other 3 positions are taken care of already. Elvis,
Ian, and Yorvit Torrealba will take the reigns, with Matt Treanor backing up Torrealba and Andres Blanco backing up the infield. There will be others (maybe Chris Davis, Tayor Teagarden), but that should be the Rangers infield to begin the season. Who do I think should start at DH? Resign the Angel Killer, Vlad. I think that it is probably going to happen, and if anyone of importance is reading my blog, everyone I have talked to on my radio show (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/bendieter) on in person thinks that the Rangers need to re-sign Vlad. So get that done, and the Rangers infield is looking good to begin the 2011 season, in my humble opinion.
