I have heard a lot on the stations and on the twitterverse about the possibility of Cole Hamels of the Phillies coming to the Rangers. At first, I was thinking that he would be a good addition to this pitching staff, but then I started thinking. What would it cost to bring Hamels to the Rangers. Well, first of all it would cost Mike Olt. We all know that Olt is a fantastic prospect and that we would like to keep him, but I could maybe live with him. Then, I think it would also cost Martin Perez, a played like Justin Grimm and at least one more lesser known prospect. And all that would be to rent a pitcher for half a season. I know we did this a couple of years ago to get one Cliff Lee, but that was before this team had ever won a series in the post season. Cliff Lee helped them do that, and I do not think we need to trade away the farm for a guy who has post season experience. Last I checked, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison, Mike Adams, Joe Nathan and on and on have post season experience. Not to mention the fact that this team still has the best record in MLB despite the fact that Colby Lewis, Neftali Feliz, Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando and Mark Lowe are all on the DL and we have Yoshi in the pen (ERA of 14.40) and Roy Oswalt starting and not going so well in two of his three starts (ERA of 7.79). This team is 17 games over .500 even with all of those injuries and more. Is Cole Hamels a great pitcher? Certainly. Would he help the Rangers now? Yes. But I am more about the future of this team, and to me the future looks very bright. Also, the now does not look so bad either. Agree or disagree. Let me hear about it.
