Everyone has been very confident that the Texas Rangers are going to make a move before the trade deadline, including me. First, we all thought it would be Cole Hamels, but he wound up staying with the Phillies. Then, the pro’s started saying that the Rangers should really add Zack Greinke, who wound up signing with the Angels. Up next on the wish list is Josh Johnson from the Miami Marlins, but reports are saying that the Marlins want a huge deal for him that for the Rangers would probably include Mike Olt, Martin Perez, Justin Grimm, Julio Borbon, and they may even ask for Jurkson Profar. All reports point to the Rangers saying no thanks for that kind of deal for Josh Johnson. So who does that leave? Ryan Dempster says he only wants to go to the Dodgers. Personally I do not like the idea of Matt Garza unless he came real cheap, Cliff Lee is just to expensive. The only guy I would be willing to part with some of the great prospects for would be King Felix, and I don’t think the Mariners are going to trade him in division, or at all right now. I now believe that if the Rangers are going to go for pitching, it will be someone that none of us have thought or written about yet. If the Rangers want to go for a right handed bat off the bench, I have a few guys I would like to see back in a Rangers uniform. I was always a big fan of Jeff Francouer, and I would not mind at all seeing the Rangers bring him back to be a right handed bat off the bench. As bad as our catchers are hitting right now, we may as well add a guy that we have never been to the World Series without: Matt Treanor. I will be the first to admit that he does not really make a lot of sense to bring back, I just really like the player and would love to see him back in a Rangers uniform again. Other names I have heard thrown out there are guys like Marco Scurito, Justin Upton, Carlos Gonzalez and others.
So, as the trade deadline is now just a few days away, Do you think that the Rangers will make a move? I still do, but I am now not sure at all who that will be. I am excited to see what happens here in the next few days.
