Josh Hamilton made headlines the other day by saying something to the effect of Texas not being a baseball state. He also said that the fans were spoiled from the back to back World Series appearances. He did say that there were some true baseball fans there, but that overall they are not a baseball town. Football is king in Texas, but baseball is not overlooked to say the least. The last three years have been magical to say the least, and the fans are part of the reason that it has been magical. Sure, many of those were fair weather fans, but those fair weather fans paid your salary and accepted you for who you were, baggage and all. Those fair weather fans made the atmosphere at the ballpark electric for the last three seasons, and those fair weather fans wanted you to stay in Texas.
I will never understand why when a player leaves a particular team to go to another team they feel they need to distance themselves from the old team. You gave us five good years, and we are thankful for that, but now you gave us some really stupid comments, so instead of a little booing mixed with some thank you applause, Josh is going to get booed on A-Rod or C.J. Wilson level. Truth be told, I think Josh wanted it that way. And if he is implying (which I kind of thought he was) that L.A. is a better baseball town than Dallas (which, by the way, the Angels are not even in L.A.), you are not very smart. The Lakers are the main thing in L.A., and if Hamilton strikes out another one hundred and sixty-two times for the Angels, the Ranger fans will not be the only one booing him.
Sure, he has a right to say whatever he wants, and he did. I just don’t know what the point of it was. I do not know what he is trying to prove. Yes, you are an Angel now Mr. Hamilton, we already knew that you were, and now you have made yourself just another hated rival instead of an ex-Ranger (Michael Young, Jeff Francouer, Matt Treanor) that we still kind of route for. So welcome to the other side of the rivalry, I hope you enjoy watching the post season with your new friends.
