Rangers Aquire a New Lowe

Derek LoweThe Texas Rangers no longer have Mark Lowe on the team, but not to worry. They have acquired a new Lowe. Derek Lowe to be exact. According to sources (Jon Heyman and Evan Grant) Lowe has signed a minor league deal with the club but is not expected to spend much time in the minors. he is expected to join the rotation pretty quick. With Perez going down the Rangers needed another guy to compete for the fifth starter spot, and it seems they think that Lowe may be the right guy for the job. That doesn’t mean that they have ruled out Ross, who had a good game today, or Grimm or any of the other candidates. It just means the Rangers are being smart by adding a vet at what was probably a pretty low-cost over all. Last season as a starter with the Indians he did not look good (8-10 with a 5.52 ERA) but when he went to the Yankees as a reliever he had a 3.04 ERA. Lowe is a 39-year-old with lots of experience and I believe he will either turn out to be a good signing or another Roy Oswalt. Either way the Rangers are just biding their time until Colby Lewis is healthy again. Good move in my opinion for the club.
