Michael Young finally spoke last night about the situation and he says that the Rangers have “manipulated and mislead him for the last time and he has requested a trade. Michael really likes his teamates a lot but he says he does not think anything can be worked out. So, I thought the Rangers would be ill-advised to get rid of Michael Young unless he wanted to be let go, and it looks like that is the case. I am a little disillusioned with the new ownership, because it appears like they have pushed the face of their franchise to the point of demanding a trade. It almost appears like they wanted him to get to this point so they could shift the blame on him, but we as fans are not that stupid. I guess there are things that went on behind the scenes that we will never know about, but that does not make it any easier to swallow for all of us who are big time Michael Young fans. If you remember, I was against the Beltre pick up from the beginning, and now you can all see why I was against it.
Great post and I completely agree. Michael Young is the leader of the team – he is supposed to be the face of the franchise – someone that you want to keep with you for years and years to come. He’s already be with the team for nearly 10 years. How could the Rangers just let him go like this? Why would you want to push him away to the point of wanting a trade? I don’t think they are trying to accommodate him at all regardless of what they are saying.
