Well, I am writing from a different bed but still in recovery. It is nice to be home. But on to the important stuff. I am admittedly a bit of a Rangers homer, but last night the umpire gave a gift to Joe Nathan and the Texas Rangers. That was not even in the vicinity of strike three. I do believe that Joe would have had a chance to save the game, but he never needed to. Umpires do a really great job probably over ninety-nine percent of the time and rarely blow big calls if you think about it. In the overall scheme of am entire baseball season, that is. But try telling Joe Madden than this morning. Needless to say, he wouldn’t believe you.
The offense looked good again last night. The regulars are starting to look comfortable and AJ is still knocking the cover off the ball. Nelly had an amazing catch last night which reminded me that he is still a pretty decent fielder. Even though he did look surprised that he caught it. Adrian Beltre reminded us why he keeps winning gold gloves. Argue all you want, I think he is the best third baseman in the game.
Tonight Nick Tepesch makes his major league debut. He needs to settle in quickly and get outs. The old adage is throw strikes and trust your defense, and I hope Nick is able to do just that. He has the stuff, I have seen that. And with the news of Matt Harrison having a sore back, wee could use a good surprise pitcher right now. Over the first two trips through the rotation I would say they are holding their own so far. And the pen, although not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, has bent but not shattered yet (You know who I am talking about Derek Lowe).
Even though I have had to enjoy the beginning of the 2013 in a bit of a haze (thanks ruptured disk) it has been an enjoyable baseball season so far and I can’t wait to see what is to come.
