Adrian Beltre had a good season for the Boston Red Sox. He had 28 Hr’s and 102 RBI. That is a good season by anyone’s definition. But he has also had some attitude issues in his career that gives me pause when it comes to the Rangers interest in signing the 31yr. old free agent. He is a talent, but his main position is 3rd base, a position that the Rangers have nailed down with perennial all star and team leader, Michael
Young. You would essentially be taking the heart and soul of a team that made it to the World Series in 2010 WITH Michael Young playing 3rd base, and adding a guy that has reportedly had many attitude problems in his career and has been a hard guy to work with. He is arrogant, self centered, stat driven, and would not be a good fit with the laid back attitude that the Ranger clubhouse has going on right now. I also think that the price is too high for a guy who has been hit or miss for Seattle and the Dodgers. Is he talented? I have no doubt about that and I do not argue that he is a talent, I just argue that he is not the type of personality that the Texas Rangers need in the clubhouse going into the 2011 season. In order to repeat as AL Champions, the Rangers do need to add depth, both on offense and on the pitching staff. If Brandon Webb works out at all and does not become another Rich Harden, the Rangers are looking good as far as pitching goes, in my opinion. What I think they need to do on offense is bring back Vlad, and maybe sign a utility infielder who is know for power, and leave Michael Young at 3rd base. I mean, seriously, are they trying to hack off the face of franchise on purpose? I, as a long time follower of the Texas Rangers, just want the organization to know that this is one guy who would not like to see Adrian Beltre as a Texas Ranger. What do you think?
