The Texas Rangers lost a heartbreaker last night to the Athletics, making it two losses in a row. The Rangers and the Yankees are the only two teams in baseball left that have not gone on a three game losing streak yet in 2013, so this was an important game for the Rangers today. And because of a blister issue on Nick Tepesch’s pitching hand, the Rangers had to turn to Ross Wolf. Although Wolf has some major league experience, today was his first start.
We were all nervous about it until the game got under way. Wolf could not have been better. He was perfect through the first nine batters, and wound up only giving up one run. The pen behind the amazing work of Neal Cotts and Robbie Ross was also great. The game was won on the offensive side in the first four batters of the game, with the two run David Murphy jack followed by the Adrian Beltre solo home-run. The offense was still not great, and they are free-swinging a little too often, but they did enough to win the game.
Texas continues in division after an off day with a trip to Seattle to face off against the Mariners (look for my preview at NolanWritin.com). It is hard to come by hits in Seattle so hopefully the Rangers will find a way to get it done. Be sure to tune in to The Hague Sports Podcast tonight as we air Nathan’s interview with Elvis Andrus.
