According to ESPN, suspensions are about to come down in the PED case that has been pending since the off-season. As we all remember, Nelson Cruz is one of the players that as named in that scandal. According to the ESPN article, “Tony Bosch, founder of the now-shuttered Biogenesis of America, reached an agreement this week to cooperate with MLB’s investigation” and it could be 100 game suspensions for players like Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun. So what does this mean for the Rangers and their all-star calabar right fielder?
It means suspension, and probably the fifty game variety for the slugger. The Rangers have not discussed the issue since spring training, and they didn’t really discuss it then either. Hopefully the front office has a contingency plan in place for just this situation. An outfield of David Murphy, Craig Gentry and Leonys Martin, although fast, will not strike fear into the opposing pitchers. The Rangers are either going to need a trade, or someone to become a power hitter real fast.
We all knew this day may be coming, but it does not make it any easier to see that Nelly is going to most likely going to be suspended. In my opinion, it takes away from what he did in 2011 if it is proven that he used at that time. I don’t like cheaters, even if they are on my team. I will write more when more information is out there.
