The A’s just keep winning and the Rangers are finding it hard to keep up during these dog days of summer. The Rangers, losers of four of their last six, including a 1-0 loss started by Yu Darvish on Saturday night, are beginning to fade a bit.
The team is now sitting just eight games over .500, and they don’t look good doing it. They are being dominated again and again by mediocre pitching. In my opinion, this offense has no heart and it has no leadership. That is part of the reason I believe that the team has reached out to the Phillies and inquires what it would take to get Michael Young back. Now don’t get me wrong, the Rangers are not going to bring Young back this season, but they know that something is missing in this offense and it may be his leadership on and off the field. It also may not be. We will probably never know.
As the trade deadline approaches, I am beginning to wonder if they are going to bring in anyone on the offensive side that will help this struggling offense regain some sort of consistency. I just don’t know who that player is. I don’t think it is Rios or Pence or Cuddyer or any of the other names that are being thrown around right now. The offense looks disinterested at best to me.
It is a shame when Yu makes one mistake and it costs him a loss. He deserves better from his offense. They were a team early on that seemed to find a way to generate runs, and now they seem to have lost that ability when it is crucial. I am not giving up hope on this season, I am just wondering how much longer they can keep losing ground to the A’s before it becomes too much to make up. This is a good Rangers team, they just need to start playing like it again.
