Nelson Cruz, according to sources (Bleacher Report, 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports) will not appeal his assumed 50 game suspension that is set to come down later today.
Nelson’s suspension will take effect today, as soon as MLB FINALLY decides to announce it. That means the Rangers will go the next 50 games (the Rangers have 50 games left) without Cruz. In my opinion, that means that David Murphy and Mitch Moreland really need to pick it up on the offense side of the ball. The assumption is either Jeff Baker will get a lot more playing time, or Jurickson Profar will start playing left field and Craig Gentry and David Murphy will share right field, and Leonys Martin will man center field.
So will the Rangers try and re sign Cruz? I guess only time will tell, and if the Rangers make the postseason, which I believe they will, Cruz will be allowed to be a part of it. So now we will see what the Rangers will do next. I will write more when I know more.
