The Texas Ranger erased a six game deficit in the last nine games by going 8-1 during that stretch. Most of that was thanks to the LA Angels of Anaheim, who don’t look very interested in playing baseball right now outside of maybe Mike Trout, who is just a beast offensively.
The Rangers swept the Angels twice and took two out of three from the Athletics to win eight of their last nine as well. As I said in my article last week entitled “Bottom Feeders”, the Rangers had a real opportunity to make up some ground against some of the worst teams in baseball. I just didn’t expect them to do it so fast.
And they aren’t done with the bad teams either. They have the Astros next, then the Brewers, Seattle, Houston and then the White Sox all coming up. All teams that the Rangers should beat and beat well. Now that they are tied with the A’s for first, all beta are off on who is going to win the west. It almost reminds me of the opposite of last season, when the Rangers had a big lead and the A’s caught up and passed them.
If the Rangers can come out of this stretch winning every series, they may just have themselves a nice lead going I to September. Of course, we all learned on 2012 that a lead going into September doesn’t mean much if you can’t hold it. Lets hope 2013 ends a little differently.
