Derek Holland pitched a great game last night and left after seven innings with a 1-0 lead. It was not his fault that his team could not give him any run support at all. This team has had a lot of trouble scoring against starting pitchers of late (see my NolanWritin article here on that). Neal Cotts has had a great season, but it just wasn’t his night. Tanner also had an off night, and it lead to a 3-1 Mariners victory.
The Rangers have a great opportunity to extend their lead in the West by beating these lesser teams, and I get frustrated when they blow a lead like they did last night. The bull pen has been nothing short of amazing this season, and it is not like they gave up a lot of runs last night. I blame last night on a lack lister offense. The Rangers have got to learn to get runs off of an opposing starting pitcher. I have a sinking feeling that is going to be the 2013 Rangers Achilles heel.
The Rangers have another opportunity to bounce right back tonight and get one step closer to winning another series. Lets hope they can pull it off an get ready for Houston to come to town.
