Over the past few seasons I have spent a lot of time on the Twitter, and I have noticed that we Rangers fans like to give nicknames to some of the players. The problem is that most of the players with the good nicknames have moved on to other teams. For example, here are some of the ones I have heard:
Ian Kinsler – Captain Pop Up
Michael Young – Face
David Murphy – The Baptist Basher
Mitch Moreland – Mitch the … well it rhymes with Mitch.
Craig Gentry – Kitten Face
Mike Napoli – NAP-O-LI
Those are just some of the ones that I remember off of the top of my head. Since all of the above mentioned Rangers players are now gone, it is time that we come up with nicknames for some of the newest Rangers players, and some of the ones that don’t currently have nicknames. So here is my (lame) attempt at naming some of the future stars of the Rangers.
Leonys Martin – The Cuban Missle. I am pretty sure I am not the first one to think of this as a nickname for Leonys, but let me put it in print. I think it is a nice nickname for him.
Prince Fielder – The Player Formerly known as Prince. Lame, I know, but I had to go there. Some of you may be too young to get that joke, so go ask your dad or google Prince. Royalty would be my other choice for him.
Shin-Soo Choo – maybe he had a nickname in Cleveland or in Cinicinati, but that doesn’t matter here. We need to give him a new nickname. Something train realted or sneeze related. Cause name humor is really the best kind of humor. I mean growing up everyone called me “Dieter Dieter Pumpkin Eater”, so I know a little about name humor. I’m thinking Choo Choo train or Shin-Soo thank Choo very much.
Jurickson Profar – Is Profarlicous too much? Maybe Profarbulous? Profartastic? Or how about just “Rookie”? I’ll let you decide.
Geovany Soto – It needs to be something simple and understated, like the player, like “Catch” or “Geo”. Hope he has a good year.
Adrian Beltre – I just call him “Man Crush”.
We all know that Derek Holland is either “Dutch Oven” or “Wonderboy”, Yu Darvish has a million nicknames thanks to his first name being Yu, and I really couldn’t come up with any for the other players like Alex Rios, Elvis Andrus, Matt Harrison, Colby Lewis, Alexi Ogando (whom I have heard refered to as “Sexi Alexi” and “OhGodNo”, Martin Perez and the rest of the guys. So feel free to coment below and give me your best Rangers nicknames. Is it baseball season yet?
