I am not sure if Nick Tepesch is going to make the Texas Rangers out of spring training, but for right now I have him as the front runner to be the fifth starter. It may not happen, and he did not exactly have a fantastic first run at that position last season, going 4-6 with a 4.84 ERA, but it was a learning experience for the 25 year old right hander.

I feel like Nick did learn a good bit from his time with the big club in 2013, and that I why I put him as the front runner to win the job coming out of Texas Rangers spring training in 2014. Nick should have more confidence than he had in 2013, his stuff shold be a little better, and he should know more about getting out major league hitters after starting 17 games for the Texas Rangers in 2013. I feel like Nick has the potential of being a starter at the major league level, not an ace mine you, but not everyone can be an ace. If Nick could give the Rangers the same 17 starts he did last season and replace the time that Derek Holland will miss, but reverse that 4-6 record to a 6-4, or 7-4 record, I think that would be a nice hold over while we all wait for Holland to get healthy again.
Will it happen? I have no idea to be honest with you, I don’t know how Nick will perform during the spring, nor do I know how the other players trying to win the fifth starter spot will perform, but I have faith that, if he becomes the fifth starter for the Texas Rangers, Nick Tepesch will do an adequate job while we wait for the return of Holland.
