Michael Young has been going back and forth about retirement this off-season, and yesterday he finally made up his mind. One of the greatest Texas Rangers of all time is going to hang it up after 14 major league seasons, thirteen of those as a member of the Texas Rangers. Young was a seven time All-Star and even was the 2006 MVP of the All-Star game. He is the Texas Rangers all time hits leader, as well as leading the franchise in doubles, triples, runs and several other categories.
Michael is a consummate professional and he will be missed on the field. He brought a business like leadership to his role on the field and in the clubhouse, and if you ask anyone who played with him they all say that he was a fantastic teammate and a great leader. Michael finished his career with the Dodgers and his last hit was a double against the Rockies. There are a lot of great memories for Texas Rangers fans from 2000 to 2012 that involve Michael Young, and I was really hoping to see him go one more season before hanging it up. That being said, I have nothing but respect for a man who is giving up doing what he loves to spend time more time at home with his wife and kids. He will make the official announcement today at Texas Rangers ballpark at Arlington at 4 pm central standard time. You can watch it at the Texas Rangers website.
