Michael Young hasn’t been in the news this winter, let’s change that!
Just a few quick hits on the Rangers super infielder, Michael Young. Young demanded a trade because he felt “misled and manipulated” by the organization for too long. Clearly he has a high opinion of himself, and let’s be honest, what professional athlete with his credentials don’t? I’m perfectly fine with him having a lot of pride and self-respect with himself as a professional baseball player. He felt wronged by his organization that he feels he’s given his heart and soul to and made many sacrifices for. My question is this: how does he feel now? He made this trade demand a week ago and I’m sure he felt that he would be in a new organization by now. In the last week 99% of the public opinion has been that he makes too much money and his defense is too bad and that all the positive intangibles he has always had are being turned around. When teams like the Florida Marlins feel like he is a $6-7 million a year player and expect a large chunk of change sent their way if they acquire him in trade, what does that say about him? The Rockies have said they wouldn’t trade for him without a large amount of cash sent their way in any deal as well. To make matters worse, the Angels said they would only throw in a few million dollars and a B prospect to acquire him. Is this a harsh reality to Michael? Is he smarter than everyone out there and did he make these comments to scare teams away from him so he wouldn’t be traded? I think Young will stay and finish his career with the Rangers, but in the meantime this gives writers something to write about aside from pitchers and catchers reporting.
