Math was never my strongest subject growing up, although I am admittedly better at it now then I used to be. However, higher math is not what I am talking about in this post today. I am talking about the fact the the Texas Rangers are in a long division section of the schedule. The Texas Rangers have played the Astros and Athletics so far, and now they have Seattle this weekend, followed by the Athletics and Angels. And all they have done during this stretch is take over the top spot in the division.
No one, including me, thought they would be in first place after all the injuries they have sustained, but somehow this team has overcome the odds and worked its way into first place. No one, including me, knows if they will be able to hold on to it. Maybe I will go beyond live on my DVR and see how the season ends? We know that there will be ups and there will be downs in the season, but being hot at a time when they are playing in their own division is always, always a good thing. The return of Adrian Beltre and Matt Harrison this weekend also helps bolster a that is already very bolstery (I know that is not a word, but I own the site so I can make words up).
This team has been nothing short of amazing so far in 2014, and I now have much higher expectations for the Texas Rangers then I did when the season started and I predicted them to finish in third place. I have the feeling I will be wrong on my prediction, and I have to say that I will be very happy to be wrong on this matter. The Texas Ranger are 8-2 in division games so far in 2014, and with the Mariners, Athletics and Angels for the next nine, they could start the season with a 14-5 record if the win all three series 2-1. I feel like they can do better with the way the pitching staff if performing right now. It all hinges on what Matt Harrison looks like coming back on Sunday.
Are the Texas Rangers the best team in the American League right now? They have the best record, but we all know that baseball has a long season, and there is a very long way to go still. I must say though, it never hurts to be off to a really good start, especially when you are also the most injured team in the American League. Everyone enjoy the long division over the next 9 days, I look forward to seeing if the Texas Rangers will be able to continue their dominance in the West!
