Nolan Ryan and John Daniels say they’re preparing their team for Michael Young to be on the club despite the fact he asked for a trade about a week and half ago.
“We’re preparing for Michael to be on the club,” Daniels said. “We have an opportunity for him to be on the club. In all our meetings, everything we’re setting up, the workouts and stuff, are based on that. We’re planning on him being on the team.”
However, Daniels and Ryan obviously prefer Young to on the team but admit to being open to a trade possibility.
“We fully expect him to be a part of the team but at the same time, we’re looking at the possibilities for trades,” Daniels said. “The only thought process is we want what is best for the organization.”
Perhaps Mike Napoli was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Young was willing to make the switch to DH if it meant helping the team, but maybe he said enough is enough when they brought Napoli on board. Maybe he took away another spot on the field where Young could have played when he wasn’t DHing.
Unfortunately, Napoli didn’t report to spring training with the other catchers and pitchers, so hopefully he does soon. If not, it doesn’t exactly send a good message to Young and the rest of the team. It only give Young more reason to believe his job is at stake.
It would be weird to see Young in any uniform other than that of the Texas Rangers, so let’s just all hope and pray that it doesn’t happen.
After all, this is the best thing for his Rangers family
