The Texas Rangers have done a good bit of reliever to starter over the past 5 seasons or so. C.J. Wilson, Alexi Ogando, Tanner Scheppers, and Robbie Ross. Wilson turned out to be a pretty good starter, now for the Angels, Alexi Ogando was a good starter for half a season, and now he has not been the same since 2011, and Tanner and Robbie Ross did not fare well this season. So why do the Texas Rangers continue to try and convert great relievers to starters?
Well one reason it happened to Robbie Ross this season was that the Texas Rangers were desperate for starters after all of the injuries that they have been suffering. Tanner never did look right as a starter, and Robbie did good for a while, but now he has been sent back down to the minors for the first time since 2012.
“It’s disappointing, but it’s part of it,” Ross said. “I’ll just keep battling and do what I have to do to get back here.”
Robbie I’m sure is very disappointed to be back in he minors, but that is what happens to major league players sometimes. Remember Nelson Cruz before he got really, really good? If Robbie Ross can work out his mechanics, which I think he can, then he will return to the Texas Rangers later in the season ready to go.
Is Robbie Ross broken? I am going to say no, he just needs to reboot, like a windows computer or an iPhone. He needs to start fresh working on pitching, and then once he gets it together, I feel like Robbie will come back and he will be better than ever. We tend to forget sometimes just how young Robbie Ross is, and just how young he arrived at the big league level as well. Hold tight Texas Rangers fans, we haven’t seen the last of Robbie Ross!
