The Texas Rangers have promoted highly touted pitching prospect Luke Jackson from Frisco to Round Rock. Luke Jackson was having a very good season for Frisco. He is 8-2 with a 3.02 ERA, he has struck out 83 while walking just 24. Jackson has a WHIP of 0.984 and he could be in Arlington before the season is over.
The Texas Rangers also promoted infielder Ryan Rua, outfielder Jake Smolinski and reliever Phil Klein from Frisco to Round Rock. In order to make room for all these guys, the Texas Rangers demoted Ryan Strausborger back down to Frisco, and the released pitcher Daniel McCutchen, who began the year with the Texas Rangers in the majors.
Last season, after being promoted from Myrtle Beach (A ball) to Frisco, Luke Jackson had an ERA of 0.67 in four starts, six games total for the Rough Riders. We all know how the Texas Rangers pitching is going right now, and although Jackson is not the only player who got promoted, he is the one I would encourage you to keep your eyes on.
We all keep hearing about guys like Joey Gallo, Jorge Alfaro and Brett Nicholas, but we can’t forget about some of the great pitching prospects that the Texas Rangers have in the minors, guys like Luke Jackson and Phil Klein, who had an ERA of 0.84 for the Rough Riders in 33.1 relief appearances. Pitchers like Neftali Feliz and Robbie Ross might just get passed up if they are not careful in the near future.
The Texas Rangers future is very bright, even if the current Rangers are not looking so great in the middle of their seven game losing streak. Luke Jackson is most definitely one of the bright spots in the future for this club, and he is now just one step away from the major leagues!
