If yesterday’s game showed us anything at all, is it that Yu Darvish is someone that the Texas Rangers desperately need right now. Colby Lewis had a pretty good start, the bull pen didn’t look very bad at all, but the Texas Rangers still wound up losing the game 5-1 yesterday. The day before Yu Darvish came in and just shut down a hot hitting Blue Jays team.
The Texas Rangers offense is showing some signs of life, and that is a really good thing, especially if our pitchers can start holding teams to less than 5 runs. And we know that Yu Davish can hold teams to less than 5 runs. Other than a few bad starts, Darvish has been spot on for the 2014 season. He has a WAR (wins above replacement) of 3.5, good for seventh in the AL, he has an ERA of 2.88, good for 8th in the AL, he is 9th in hits per 9 innings, he is third in strikeouts and first in strikeouts per nine innings with 11.361 (baseball reference).
The Texas Rangers need Yu Darvish if they are going to be successful at all in the second half of the season, and Lewis’ performance yesterday wasn’t too bad either. I am glad to see some life still in this team, and I hope it continues today and into the Yankees series as well. If the Texas Rangers can finish anywhere around .500 for the second half of the season, I will take that as a good end to the season and it will be thanks to on Yu Darvish.
