Robbie Ross started out the 2014 as the newest Texas Rangers reliever turned starter. It didn’t go well for Robbie Ross, and he wound up being put back in the bull pen and eventually sent down due to ineffectiveness. He was 2-4 with a 5.61 ERA.
Robbie Ross is now 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA pitching out of the Express rotation, according to the Texas Rangers website. He seems to have re-found his confidence and his passion and his good stuff. With Neal Cotts being on the trading block, it would not surprise me at all if the Texas Rangers are planning to give Robbie Ross another shot at the bull pen, the role that he filled so well in 2012 and 2013.
A healthy, effective Robbie Ross is a Robbie Ross that will help this team in late inning situations, and that is something that is finally starting to look less shaky for the Texas Rangers these days. My opinion is that Neal Cotts will be dealt, and Robbie Ross needs to be able to step in and take that late inning left handed specialist role and get people out.
I still have faith in Robbie. He is young, he is very talented, and he is starting to look like the Robbie Ross that we all enjoyed watching in 2012 and 2013. I look for him to rejoin the Texas Rangers in the next few weeks to see if they still have the Ross that we all hope they do.
