Will Mitch Moreland be in Texas Next Season?

Moreland2The Rangers have Prince Fielder manning first base for the foreseeable future, if he is healthy going forward. So what should they do with former first baseman Mitch Moreland? They tried him out last season at DH, and he didn’t hit with the kind of power he is capable of. They played him a little in the outfield, but they had Alex Rios taking care of right field for the most part. Will Mitch Moreland be back with the club? I think he will.

Mitch had just 2 home runs in 52 games last season, that amounted to just one home run every 84 at bats. In his career thought he is much better than that, and we all know that he was injured for most if not all of the season in 2014, just like a lot of Rangers players. Mitch would not be my first choice for DH, the Rangers could go and get someone like Kendry Morales as NolanWritin.com suggested, but I think that now that Rios is gone, Mitch could fit in as a fourth outfielder and a part time designated hitter.

In 2013 Mitch hit 23 home runs, some of those were bombs as well. He also has a career batting average of .252 with a career slugging percentage of .430. He is a guy that needs to work on his walks vs. strikeouts (28 walks per season average compared to 121 strikeouts) and he needs to prove that he can stay healthy. I think there is a place for Moreland, and it appears that the Rangers are planning on trying to keep him around, as they tendered him yesterday according to CBS Sports.

Do you think Mitch Moreland is still a good fit for the Texas Rangers? Should they put him out there and see what they can get for him. My thought on the subject is that Jon Daniels and crew probably already went through scenarios where they tested the waters with Mitch and did not like the return they could get on him. I see him playing  a good bit of outfield, a little bit of first and a little bit of DH. He would not be a bad utility guy off the bench.I see Mitch Moreland returning to the Texas Rangers in 2015.  Am I wrong? Let me know!
