After defeating the L.A. Dodgers three out of four games, the Texas Rangers fell short this past weekend in Chicago. The beat the White Sox best pitcher in Chris Sale, then fell to a balk off and a walk off, respectively. It was a disappointing weekend for Texas Rangers fans, but it was not the end of the world. The Rangers will look to get back on track tonight against the Oakland A’s, who, like the White Sox, are not playing their best baseball so far in 2015.
Oakland is currently sitting at 31-41, in last place, while the Rangers are sitting in second place with a record of 37-33. The Rangers have Chi Chi Gonzalez (2-1, 0.90 ERA), Wandy Rodriguez (4-2, 3.20 ERA) and Colby Lewis (7-3, 4.08 ERA), while the Athletics have Jesse Chavez (3-6, 2.52 ERA), Kendall Graveman (3-4, 4.02 ERA) and of course Sonny Gray (8-3, 1.95 ERA). The Texas Rangers really need a bounce back series against the Athletics before hitting the road again to face off against the Blue Jays.
Home field advantage is important in Texas, especially with the heat, and I believe that is is important for the Texas Rangers to play well at home. So far in 2015, they are 15-16 in Arlington, and this series can put them above .500 for the season at home if they can take care of business. They get a needed day off today, and then it is time to put some more distance between themselves and the Oakland Athletics. We can also hope that the Astros start losing, but they are playing so well I am not sure that is going to happen! The Texas Rangers can only take care of the games they are playing, and if they can do that they will be in the race come September for the first time since 2012.
