The Rangers and the Astros begin the battle for the Silver Boot tonight in Arlington, and it may also be the beginning of the battle for the American League West. Right now the standings look like this:
Texas – 7-6
Anaheim – 6-7
Oakland – 6-7
Seattle – 5-7
Houston – 5-8
Even though the Astros sit in last place right now, it does not mean that they are still not one of the best teams in the West. I believe that the battle for the West will once again come down to the two Texas teams.
Tonight begins a battle that has been going on for over a decade now, the battle for the Silver Boot. The Texas Rangers have many more wins that the Astros in the series, but in fairness, the Astros were not very good over the last 8 to 10 years. The Texas Rangers are 11-4 over all in the Silver Boot series, and they have won 8 of the last 9 Silver Boots. Tonight the Rangers send Derek Holland to the mound against former Rangers Scott Feldman, tomorrow the Rangers have Cole Hamels going up against Doug Fister and then Thursday will pit A.J. Griffin against Dallas Kuechel.
The Rangers need to set a tone for the series starting tonight, they need to take it too the Astros and let them know that they plan on winning the Silver Boot for the 9th time in the last 10 seasons, and also that they plan on winning the West. I think the Rangers should take advantage of a Astros team that is not playing as good as they will be later in the season.
Enjoy the games, get out the Arlington if you can to cheer on the Rangers.
