There is no secret that I am a big Brett Nicholas fan, and in that dismal game last night against the New York Yankees, the only joy we all got out of it was watching Brett Nicholas get his first career major league home run. Actually, it wasn’t a dismal game, it was a well pitched game on both sides of the ball.
“Eovaldi was amazing,” Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder said. “If you hold a big league team without a hit into the seventh, you’re doing something right.”
“It was a tough matchup for [Ramos], going up against Eovaldi, but he threw the ball very well,” Rangers manager Jeff Banister said. “Cesar did what we thought he would do … keep us close and keep us within striking distance.”
I thought that Ramos did a good job for his first start, and as Banister said, he kept the Texas Rangers within striking distance the whole game. The Rangers are struggling right now, but I am still not worried about them. Especially when your back up catcher who was not supposed to be in the majors this season winds up scoring your only run against the Yankees.
Brett Nicholas is a guy that I really hope makes it with the Texas Rangers, but if he doesn’t and goes to another team, I will root for him there as well. The Rangers really need a win tonight, and I hope it comes with a lot of runs and some great pitching. The Rangers really need a break out night offensively!
