Who is Expendable

MLB: Texas Rangers at San Francisco GiantsThe Texas Rangers are not looking good right now, which is a serious understatement. The defense has been bad, the offense is not even showing up, and the pitching since the break has been better, but not great. So that begs the question: who do the Rangers go get before the trade deadline, and who is expendable for such a trade?

A fan favorite is Rougned Odor, who will always be best known for clocking Jose Bautista, is a servicable second baseman, but he is not amazing. Jurickson Profar, another fan favorite, is a really good infielder as well. He could also be the second baseman, or first baseman of the future. Elvis Andrus is most likely too expensive to move, at least without eating most of his contract.

As far as outfield goes, is Joey Gallo available for a trade? What about Nomar Mazara? He has had his ups and downs, but I really like him. The Rangers have an aging, oft injured Shin-Soo Choo and a train wreck in Prince Fielder. They owe both guys about a billion dollars (that number is rounded of course).

And then there is the prospecrs not in the majors. Names like Lewis Brinson, Luis Ortiz, Luke Jackson (who may have hurt his trade stock this season), Ryan Cordell and Ronald Guzman. All good prospects, all are drawimg interest. They also have guys with some major league experience like Andrew Faulkner, Jose Leclrec, Delino Deshields and Brett Nicholas.

In my opinion, almost anyone should be expendable for the right piece. A piece that can make a difference now and in the future. Not just a rental. I also would not trade both Odor and Profar. I would be okay with one or the other. I will write more on who they should trade for later. Do you agree, disagree? Let us know in the comments, thanks.

  1. I would be surprised if profar and Rua are around after the trade deadline. Not because I don’t like them, but rather we have no place for them. Unless we are going to Billy bean this, then those two are the most expendable. Followed by Joey Gallo…who in my opinion is the next Chris Davis (unable to hit consistently in texas). So if I had my say? Those are our trade options.
