The Texas Rangers hot stove is heating up with only a few weeks left until the trade deadline. From all reports, it looks like pitching is really what they want. Makes perfect sense since pitching is what they really need. Both bull pen and starting rotation.
So what names are being linked to the Rangers in Hot Stove reports? Glad you asked.
Andrew Miller – This left handed relief pitcher has appeared in 38 games for the Yankees, and he is 5-1 with a 1.37 ERA. He has 69 strike outs to just 6 walks. He would be a good option for a late inning guy for the Rangers and I think the Rangers are very interested in Miller.
Andrew Cashner – The Padres starting pitcher and TCU alum is 4-7 with a 5.05 ERA. Not exactly great, right? But since May 3rd, the right hander has given up 3 runs or less in seven of his nine starts, and he has only given up more than three earned runs once in that same time frame. He has pitched 67.2 innings, and has 53 strike outs to 27 walks.
Matt Moore – Tampa Bay’s left hander is 5-7 with a 4.33 ERA in 19 starts so far this season. Moore is coming off of Tommy John surgery, and is trying to reclaim his former glory (he has a career ERA of 3.93). Moore has 98 strike outs to 34 walks.
Rich Hill – The Rangers have been linked to the Athletics left handed starter in several rumors. Hill, in 13 starts, is 9-3 with a 2.25 ERA. He has 90 strike outs to 28 walks. My only problem with trading for Hill is what would we have to give the Athletics. I would hate to see Gallo and Profar doing damage against the Rangers!
The Rangers have also been linked to several other Rays pitchers, namely Drew Smyly and Jake Odorizzi, as well as catcher for the Brewers Jonathan Lucroy, although on Daniels has made it clear that he is more interested on pitching than position players.
So there is a Sunday night update on the Rangers Hot Stove. Keep it here for more Hot Stove news!
