In some news this afternoon, the Texas Rangers and Braves have made a trade. The Rangers get RHP Lucas Harrell and LHP Dario Alvarez from the Braves, while they get minor league 2nd base prospect Travis Demeritte.
Harrell is 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA this season in 5 starts (29.1 innings) with the Braves.
Alvarez is 3-1 with a 3.oo ERA with 16 appearences for the Braves. He has 28 strikeouts to 5 walks with the Braves. Both will come straight to the Rangers, according to sources.
Demeritte is a minor league second baseman who has only played as high as A+ ball.
The Rangers get some pitching help, including a guy that could be the 5th starter for the rest of the season, while the Braves get a future infielder.
This is probably not the big trade that all fans wanted, but there is nothing to say that the Rangers are done yet. All in all, the Rangers got two pitchers on the cheap, and in my opinion, it was worth it if either of these players work out.
The Rangers now have a rotation of Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, AJ Griffin, Martin Perez, and now Lucas Harrell. He should get the start on Sunday against the Royals if the rotation holds.
