The Texas Rangers were not quiet during the trade deadline in 2016. Well, they were quiet until there were 40 minutes to go. At that point, Jon Daniels and company brought in three different players that improve the club. A club that is already in first place.
The first move was to go and get Carlos Beltran from the Yankees. Beltran, although a rental, can hopefully give the Rangers that middle of the order bat that Prince Fielder was supposed to bring.
Next, the Texas Rangers went and got Jonathan Lucroy (catcher) and Jeremy Jeffress (RHP) from the Brewers. Lucroy, an All Star this season for the Brewers, brings excellent behind the plate defense and also a great bat. The Rangers released Bryan Holaday and Bobby Wilson to make room. They did a heck of a job.

Jeffress was the Brewers closer, and a heck of a closer at that. He will not close for the Rangers. Sam Dyson will continue in that role for now.
The Yankees and Brewers got a haul for sure, with the Yanks getting three younger prospects including Dillon Tate, last years 4th overall pick, and the Brewers received Luis Ortiz and Lewis Brinson. All good prospects.
So how will the new look Texas Rangers actually look? If Beltran and Lucroy continue to play like they have, and Jeffress can keep pitching well, pretty darn good. This is a teal that was already 6 up on the Astros going into the trade deadline.
The Rangers line up will be bery tough to pitch too, and the bull pen has the opportunity to be lights out. Oh, and a starting rotation that includes Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels, a healthy AJ Griffin and Martin Perez, and a returning Colby Lewis/Derek Holland is not so bad either.
The Texas Rangers are attempting to set themselves up for a World Series run. I think today was a step in the right direction.
