Former Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira announced he will retire at the end of the 2016 season today. Teixeira played 14 seasons in the majors, the first five with Texas.
“I got to live out my dream and had more success than I could ever imagined, but it felt like it was the right time to step away from the game. I want to finish this season on a high note.”
Teixeira won a World Series with the Yankees, the team he is currently employed by. Many Rangers fans were unhappy when he was traded at the time. Then Rangers fans got to meet Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison, and Jarred Saltilimacchia. If that trade had not happened, I do not believe the Rangers go to back to back World Series in 2010 and 2011.
Elvis is the only one left from that trade, and he is still working out well for the Rangers. Teixeira was a great switch hitter and first baseman. He holds the record for most RBI in a season by a switch hitter (144), which he acomplished in 2005 while with the Rangers.
The Rangers have had trouble replacing him ever since he left for Atlanta. It did, however work out well for both Teixeira and the Rangers in the end.
2007 was a long time ago, and the Rangers eliminated his Yankees in 2010, so that made Rangers fans happy. Teixeira had a very successful major league career, and I did enjoy watching him while he was with the Rangers.
I wish him well in all his future endeavors, and hope that he enjoys the remainder of this season. I also hope he enjoys watching the Rangers in the post season once again.
