Today the Rangers acquired former Brewer and Astro Carlos Gomez. Gomez was cut last week from the Astros. He has some good numbers in his career, but was struggling a bit with the Houston club.
The Rangers, in my opinion, are taking a chance that they may get a veteran presence in the clubhouse to help Nomar Mazara and Jurickson Profar. I don’t really understand this acquisition. Not that I don’t trust Jon Daniels and crew, I just have not ever heard or read good things about him.
I am guessing, since he played with both Prince Fielder and Jonathan Lucroy, the Rangers asked them what they thought before they picked him up. I suspect if they protested vienemently, the Rangers would not have signed him.
I like the outfield of Delino DeShields, Ian Desmond and Nomar Mazara, so I’m guessing Carlos Gomez will be insurance in case of injury or slump. I read it will be Thursday when he joins the team most likely. I hope this doesn’t turn into a Christian Guzman type situation. We shall see.
