Jeff Banister was asked about the fact that the Rangers have a 10.5 game lead in the division Saturday night. His response was good.
Banister said that to him, the lead was zero. He said that when teams start thinking about that sort of thing, it is usually when things go wrong. The fact is that the Rangers do have a 10.5 game lead in the division, and they have dominated the AL West so far.
What the Rangers have not done yet, however, is won the division. They are headed in that direction for sure, but they are not there yet.
That is why I appreciate Banister’s comments. The Rangers need to continue playing like they have to win. When you stop playing like you have to win, you usually stop winning.
There is something special about this team. Everyone seems to be meahing together well, they are pitching well. They are hitting well. They are defending well. The Rangers are a whole lot of fun to watch right now.
They go for another series sweep and their fourteenth win in sixteen tries against the Astros tomorrow afternoon. I hope for two things: I hope that Jose Altuve is alright, and I hope the Rangers get the sweep!
