Jake Diekman has been solid this season for the Rangers. He has been almost automatic with the hold. Then, he somehow lost his control. Really bad. He does not even look like the same pitcher.
So should we be worried about an injury? Would it be worse if he wasn’t injured? Why do some players just lose control after a great season? If I had the answer to that, I would be apitching coach instead of a blogger.
Jake’s ERA for the season is at 3.23, but that does not tell the whole story. In the last 14 days, Jake has an ERA of 13.50, and in the last seven days it is infinite. Not kidding. Check baseball reference.
Diekman cannot seem to find the strike zone, sort of like Cole Hamels in his last start. Now the question is, with three weeks left, will he be able to recover before the post season starts?
The Rangers will be trotting Tanner Scheppers out soon, along with Alex Claudio, Keone Kela and others. We know Jeremy Jeffress will not be on the post season roster, now we are not sure on Diekman.
Slumps happen, and I for one still trust that, if not injured, Diekman can get the job done. He has three weeks to prove I’m right and not crazy. I hope he does.
