After a really bad series in Seattle, the Rangers began a series with the Angels. The starting pitchers for game one and two were Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels. Both struggled with control. For Hamels, he has now had several bad outings in a row. People have bad outings, the key is finding a way to win despite the bad outings.
The Rangers have done that the last two nights. While Darvish only gave up one run, he threw a lot of balls. The Rangers won late. Saturday night, Cole was in trouble pretty much the whole game, but he kept his team in the game. In the spirit of mever ever quit, the Rangers again found a way to win late.
Granted the Angels are not a good team, but these are the games the Rangers are supposed to win, and they are doing it.
Colby Lewis takes the mound today, and he should give the Rangers a chance for another series sweep if he is good at all. I hope to see a Lewis that is back to old form, although I wouldn’t expect it. As long as he is back to form come post season time.
The lead is now 9.5 over Houston. While it is still possible Houston could storm back, it’s looking more and more like the Rangers are going to be AL West champions again. Finding ways to win the games you are supposed to win is the recipe for post season play.
