The Rangers are on the verge of clinching the American League West for the second straight season. Jeff Banister has his team firing on all cylinders right now. It leads inquiring minds to wonder, especially after the way Martin Perez pitched Monday night, who will the three or four post season starters be?
Obviously it will be Hamels first and Darvish next, but it is the third spot that intrigues me. You have Colby Lewis, Martin Perez, Derek Holland and AJ Griffin for probably one spot. Colby Lewis is the winningest pitcher in Rangers post season history. Derek Holland has had flashes of brilliance. Martin Perez is almost unbeatable at home. AJ has really been good this season. The Rangers have a tough decision.
If the Rangers wanted my advice, which I’m sure they do, it would be Lewis and Perez. Holland and AJ would go to the pen, and Perez would be the if needed guy. Lewis is the winningest pitcher in Rangers franchise history. Perez is the hot hand right now.
The Rangers will make their choice soon, if they have not already. I am ready for some post season baseball!
