The Texas Rangers had a winning season. They won the West. They got the number one seed in the American League. They got to take it easy for most of September. They got t not even care about the last two games of the season. They had 3 days off to prepare for Toronto. It was looking like they were poised for a great October run.
The Blue Jays came to town and dominated the Rangers led by Cole Hamels. Then, they dominated the Rangers in game two against Yu Darvish. Two aces, two dreadful performances. Game 3 was a big one, obviously. The Rangers called on Colby Lewis, the franchise leader in post season wins. Not as bad as game one and two, but he still did not pitch well. And then it was over. A horrible way to end a good regular season.
Now we sit here, a week later, wondering what happened. If we look into the numbers though, it is not as big a surprise as I thought. But as a fan, we want to believe in the team and not in the numbers.
In August, the Rangers starters had an ERA of 3.89. In September/October, that shot up to 5.88. The bats didn’t do too hot either. They hit .257 as a team in Sept./Oct. Ian Desmond, Jonathan Lucroy, Mitch Moreland and Carlos Beltran all disappeared in late September.
Was it seriously disappointing? Yes. Will we all get over it? Of course. Time moves on and 2017 will be a new year.
I would like to personally thank all of you that took the time to read our posts, comment on them, interact with us on social media and enjoy the 2016 season with us. It has been our biggest year ever here at the site, so a big thank you to all of you.
