According to Jeff Passan on twitter, the Idians have agreed to a $65mm deal with Edwin Encarsion. That means thw Rangers are obviously not in on him anymore. So the Rangers really need some starting pitching and a first baseman. So why should they not bring back Mike Napoli?
Napoli was a fan favorite during his time in a Texas uniform. He was productive, and his main position these days is first base. Napoli playes in the 2016 World Series as an Indian. For the right price, he would be a good fit on this young Rangers team.
Sure, Jurickson Profar would probably turn ito a fine first baseman, but why not have him share time with Napoli? We know him, and we know what he can do at the plate. He would be a good option for DH as well, but I bet he still wants to play in the field.
To me, it makes sense to bring Napoli back to Texas. He adds veteran depth to a team that is filled with young players such as Profar, Rougnes Odor, and Nomar Mazara. He could bring a lot to the team.
I say bring him back. Get a deal done quickly, and make Mike Napoli a Texas Ranger again.
