The Rangers lost Derek Holland to free agency, and they have yet to sign Colby Lewis, and they signed Andrew Cashner to be the 4th or 5th guy. So that leaves Cole Hamels, Yu Darvish Martin Perez and Andrew Cashner as the Rangers rotation right now. Of course, right now is December.
The one big name pitcher left out there being talked about as a Rangers possibility is Jason Hammel. Hammel was 15-10 with a 3.83 ERA for Chicago last season. He struck out 144 while walking 53. He also won a World Series. He would be a good pickup for Texas, but I don’t think he will come cheap. So how should the Rangers be willing to spend on him?
Hammel would be a good option for the third starter behind Hamels and Darvish. Who knows if Darvish will resign with Texas? If he does not, it would really be nice to have someone like Hammel already on the team.
So do you think the Rangers will try and sign him? Do you want them to sign him? My opinion: it would be a good thing for the team. Now we just play the waiting game.
