Citizens of Arlington rejoice! The great Mike Napoli is back in the fold for the Texas Rangers as (presumably) the everyday first baseman. Napoli is not as good a first baseman as Mitch Moreland was, but he is a better, more consistent bat. Napoli was made official Thursday morning in Surprise, Az.
Napoli is in his third sting with the Texas Rangers. He was the Rangers catcher during the 2011 World Series season. He now exclusively plays first base. Napoli was in the World Series last season with the Cleveland Indians.
Joey Gallo has been working out exclusively at first base in the off-season, but it is unsure if he will start with the Rangers or with the Express. Jurickson Profar seems the best choice for the back up first baseman/utility infielder. Ryan Rua is also a decent first base option to back up Napoli.
Pitchers and catchers got underway yesterday, and full camp officially starts on Monday, February 20th. Napoli will now be one of the guys on the field come Monday!
