Nick Martinez had all but pitched his way of of a starting job for the Texas Rangers in the 2017 season. His ERA was high. He wasn’t lasting long into starts. He was being outpitched by Dillon Gee and others. Then Monday night happened.
Martinez came outnpitching with a purpose. Through the first four innings he only gave up two hits and no runs. His pitch count was good. Martinez is saying “don’t forget about me”.
I am not sure one good outing will erase all the bad ones, but baseball is all about momentum. If Martinez can get momentum at the right time, he could worm his way back into the rotation discussion.
Spring training is always more fun to watch when there is competition for pitching spots. Should be a really fun last few weeks of spring training to watch!
And as a side note, I really am liking the way Elvis Andrus is looking at the plate this spring. Good contact and he is making rhings happen.
